CIRCA x A.WARE

Learn more about neurodiversity and embracing individuals on the autism spectrum in workplaces with Dr. Karen Bopp, professor at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Bopp’s work in the field of neurodiversity and autism prioritizes, not a change on the individual’s part, but within the community as a whole. And, the importance of direct neurodiverse and autistic engagement in policy and program making. To learn more visit their website at UBC CIRCA, under the professional development tab. The other modules will be coming out later this year and into the beginning of next year. The courses are free for anybody who wants to access them.

According to Statistics Canada, one in five adults have some form of a physical or intellectual disability.

Neurodiversity and disability can affect one’s experience of the world, and it is our responsibility as a community to ensure that everyone can access social services, businesses, and public spaces.
The Mindful Merchants initiative aims to accomplish 3 goals:

  1. To educate the public and raise awareness about accessibility issues.

  2. To train staff on disability sensitivity and accessible shopkeeping.

  3. To make small local businesses more accessible for people of all abilities, including wheelchair friendliness, signage legibility, and other considerations.
